Officials
of China Electronic Chamber of Commerce (CECC) recently met with
officials of Phillips and SISVEL regarding the MPEG-2 patent pool
license issue. During the talk, the two sides had in-depth exchange of
the key issues related to MPEG-2 patent pool license in China.
This
communication is the first step the Chamber took to coordinate MPEG-2
patent pool licensing issues. At the International Consumer Electronics
Show held on August 29 in Berlin, Germany, a large number of TV, MP3 and
cell phones etc exhibits from many Chinese exhibitors including Hisense
were confiscated by local authorities. This had not only caused those
enterprises financial losses but brought poor brand image to locals as
well. It is upon the request of its member enterprises such as Hisense
that Chamber of Commerce got involved in this matter.
At
the end of the talk, both companies have indicated their willingness to
actively cooperate with the Chamber of Commerce and resolve issues that
MPEG-2 patent pool license faced in China as soon as possible. The
Chamber of Commerce will seek opinions from Chinese enterprises more
comprehensively.
On
September 12 of this year, China Electronic Chamber of Commerce and
CN-KnowHow Intellectual Property Agent Ltd signed formal agreement that
CN-KnowHow has become the perennial Intellectual Property consultancy
unit for China Electronic Chamber of Commerce and undertakes daily
operation of its Department of Legal Affairs. This coordination activity
is the first event the Department of Legal Affairs held since it
started operation officially.
